Granny Walks with Help

Well, the title says it all. Granny has been walking in physical therapy for the past few days. Today she was able to use a walker for a extended period of time. It is very painful for her to put pressure on her right arm and hand and this makes it hard to fully utilize her walker. Please pray that her arm would heal completely and she would have relief from the pain. Please continue to pray for her full recovery. Thank you in advance for all your prayers. Granny's room is full of flowers and cards and I know that it means so much to her to know that ya'll are thinking of her.

Bath Time

Abby enjoys bath time. I usually wait and bath her around 7:00 because she's colicky and the warm water calms her down. I think she would loinge in the tub for hours if I would let her.

Car Wash

This Friday Anne and Scott washed his "baby" car, that's what Anne calls it, to prepare it to sell. Abby and I watch all the action from a safe distance. Scott has driven this green machine since college and it has been a dependable and faithful companion. He was sad to say goodbye to his old friend when he sold it Saturday. We had to give up this car because I have officially become a mom. We bought . . . a minivan. I always said I would NEVER drive a van, but I am a minivan convert. I love it! Automatic opening and closing doors, lots of storage, and easy entering and exiting for Anne make the minivan the most wonderful invention since sliced bread.

Dinner at Papa and Gra'ma's

At least once a week Gra'ma invites us over for dinner and it is wonderful! We always come early so Lilly is able to go on a walk. It is a great time for Mom and I to catch up and get some fresh air. When Papa and Daddy show up we all sit down for dinner, including Abby, I'm usually eating and nursing. Last night, after dinner Anne went outside with Papa to dig post holes for the new fence, Gra'ma and I washed dishes, and Abby and Daddy watched the Aggie's cream BYU. When the dishes were finished Gra'ma, Abigail, and I came outside to join in the fun. Anne spotted lots of caterpillars among the flowers and was able to resist touching the future butterfly. She transferred dirt for Papa, helped pour water in the post holes, and did a bit of "gardening" with the dirt she had collected. Gra'ma swung while Abby screamed! Abigail is either colicky from 6pm to 8pm or 8pm to 10pm. She did better outside and even calmed down a bit on the swing. Gra'ma said it reminded her of me as baby. I told her I didn't remember doing anything like that :)

Above is a pick of Abby last night enjoying the nice evening weather.

Granny Update

Granny has had her tracheotomy completely removed! She does quite a bit of physical therapy each day and it has been very tiring and painful. She can stand on her own and take a few steps, but still spends most of her time in her wheel chair. Please pray that the swelling in her right arm and hand will go down and that she will regain complete use of her right limb. It is very painful for her to move her right hand or even have it touched. She is also eating regular food, granted most of it is soft and chopped up. Please continue to pray for her complete recovery!

Bumbo

Baby Abby has been trying out her Bumbo seat. She can hold her head up fairly well now. She only sits in it for about five minutes and enjoys being upright to see whats going on in the world.

Granny Update

Granny has been at Health South for a week and has made great progress! She is able to eat regular food, she had chicken spaghetti last night, and has taken a few steps on her own. Anne, Abby, and I went over on Tuesday and had a picnic outside with Granny. Anne ran around and entertained everyone while Abby cried. Granny is already looking forward to going back to the beach at the end of August and of course coming home. We don't know for sure when that will be, but we hope it will be within a few months. Please keep praying for Granny's recovery and for the ability to endure the pain that is involved in rehabilitation. Thank you for all your love and support!

Hard at Work

Anne, Abby, and I have been back at work for three weeks now and are finally settling into a new work routine. Anne still goes to preschool three mornings out of the week so I get a little break on those days. Surprisingly, things have gone smoothly. Anne is great at entertaining Abby during her wake time and Abby has finally learned to take her nap at Papa's. Abby has her own special area for her pack and play complete with changing table. Papa made her a screen to shield her from the noise and make it easier for her to sleep and me to work. Anne has gotten better and better at playing on her own. Yesterday she dressed up in a rainbow wig and Papa's hat and wore it around for quite awhile. I couldn't resist taking her picture.

Granny has Moved

Granny moved on Wednesday to Health South Rehabilitation. She is doing well, but her days are filled with hard and painful exercise. Anne, Abby, and I want to visit her this afternoon. She is in a regular wheel chair and is able to sit up on her own. She spends her time doing speech, physical, occupational, and eating therapy. It is a lot of activity and it is tiring. Please pray that Granny can persevere through this difficult couple of weeks. Granny's new address is as follows:

Trinity Mother Francis Rehabilitation Hospital
Bobbie Harkrider Room 135B
3131 Troup Hwy.

To the Rescue

Yesterday after dropping Anne off at school I came out to the minivan with baby to set out for MOPS. When I was loading things up including baby I managed to lock my keys, purse, phone, and BABY in the van. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I had locked one of my children in the car. I knew not to panic because of my previous experiences, but everyone around me seemed on the edge of a breakdown. Thankfully, Abby was fast asleep and was never aware of the "danger." After trying to reach Scott for 10 minutes I gave into peer pressure and called the fire department. Of course Abby is more important than a van window, but I was a bit worried the people around were going to bash in the window before the fire department could get there. We just got it two weeks ago, she was fast asleep, and it was only 40 degrees outside so I really didn't think that a hammer to the windows was necessary. Thankfully, the firemen, fire engine and all showed up and opened the door in two minutes without breaking any windows. I thanked them very much and persuaded them to take a quick snapshot with baby Abby (she's in the car seat.) After that I hugged everyone and still made it in time for MOPS :)

One Month

I recently found the USB cord for the camera again so . . . here are some more pics! Abigail is one month old today! Can you believe it? It has gone by so quickly! She is a super baby and we are all thankful. She only wakes up once in the night and then we start our day around seven. Anne has adjusted fabulously to having a new sister and is a great help in finding Abby's pacifier.

Valentine's Day

A little belated, but here are a few pics of Anne at her Valentine's Day party at school. Baby Abby made it to this party as well, but thankfully, slept the entire time. Anne received Valentines from all her friends and made quite a haul of candy. She was one happy girl!

Granny Eats

Today Granny had her first meal since the accident. She had jello, pudding, soup, and ice tea! She was also able to sit up on the side of the bed all on her own! Wahoo! Please continue to pray for her full recovery and perseverance during physical rehabilitation.

Granny's Cap

The doctors have capped off Granny's tracheotomy and she is down to one liter of oxygen a day. Anne, Abby, and I went to see Granny on Thursday and she looks wonderful! She was able to talk and sounded like she always her regular self! It was so exciting. I talked to her on the phone today as well. Her doctor is preparing her for a move to a intensive rehab facility which he anticipates her only having to spend two weeks in and then she will go to a regular rehab. Her estimated time in the regular rehab, if everything goes well, would only be two weeks and she would go home after that! Praise God! Of course these are all best case scenarios and things could take longer than predicted, but it is exciting to hear and see Granny doing so well. Since Granny is able to talk now she has been dictating list of things for Mom to check, appointments to cancel, and phone calls to make. I can't believe she is able to remember all these appointments that she made months ago. I can barely remember appointments that I have written on the calendar!
