The Zoo

Last Saturday we spent the evening at the zoo. Every summer the zoo opens for an evening and invites the public to come, bring a picnic dinner, and see the animals close up. The concession stands gave away free snow cones all night and several were had by all. Anne did have a minor break down when the colors of her rainbow snow cone melted together and turned brown.

Special presentations by the zookeepers at the elephant, bird, giraffe, and alligator exibits were very entertaining. We watch the elephants devour whole watermelons and pick up tiny pieces of carrots with their trunks. My favorite was watching the keepers lure the alligators out of the lake and feed them fish and chicken. It made my heart jump!

Chad and I used to crawl under these same turtle shells when we were kids.

Gra'ma's Birthday

We celebrated Mom's birthday this month. I made the cake and Granny brought the fixins. It was yummy if I do say so myself. I attempted to reproduce my mama's (my mom's maternal grandmother) buttermilk cake and I think I did fairly well. My expectations are always a little bloated and this time was no different. I just knew that when my mother bit into her piece of cake her mind would float back to Sunday afternoons at the funeral home with Mama. I kept a sharp eye on her when she took her first bite, but I couldn't tell if she was in a funeral home state of mind. She did say that the cake was good and that made me feel good. Happy Birthday Mom!

Anne dressed up in her finest for the festive occasion.

Abby played a little tune for Gra'ma

Office Expansion

Counterscapes added a new employee in October of 09, Jessica. We love Jessica! She spent the first seven months squished in an office with Dad and Chuck waiting for Dad to finish the office expansion. He started working on it the second day Jessica arrived and it is finally finished! We needed the added space.

In Jessica's new expanded office she created a little cave for Anne and Abby. They spend whole half hours hidden under her desk playing and watching movies.

Dove Chocolate

I have been to them all: Mary Kay, Arbonne, Southern Living, Home Decor, Pampered Chef, Homemade Gourmet . . . the list could go on and on. I have bought my fair share of make-up, face wash, jewerly, cookware, seasonings, candles, and home accessories. Some of the products I have absolutely loved and some are still in their original boxes.

A couple of weekends ago my friend invited me to her mother-n-laws Dove Chocolate Party. In the words of Ashley "Giiirrrlll," it was good. It was the best party I had ever been too. Everything was edible and trust me I ate it, all. Lisa was kind enough to let Anne and Abby sample her wares, too. Now, whenever I see Lisa, I think of chocolate which isn't a bad thing.

I ate this!

What all the chocolate is gone?

Splash Day

KK ends every year with Splash Day. Anne has been looking forward to it since last May. It sure did seem to come quickly this year. She had a ball and didn't want to leave. Abby also enjoyed Splash Day. I had considered putting Abby in a swimsuit, but decided against it. I should have put her in her swimsuit. After only a brief time Abby went a little East Texas and ended up taking off her dress and running around in her bloomers. The only thing she was missing was a Kool-Aid stain on her tummy. I can't wait until next year!
