I talked to my mother this afternoon and she said that the doctor has decided to wait on the ventilator because all of Granny's numbers are good. Granny's nurse was a answer to pray today. She showed true concern and compassion for mom and Granny. She was the one who told the doctor that Granny was doing well and that she was probaly tired. The physical therapist came in and work with Granny to get her to hold her head up. Mom said Granny's eyes were wide open the entire time, but after that Granny was wiped out. Please pray that Granny would be able to sustain her own breathing, be alert enough to clear her airways and cough when asked. Please also thank God for the sweet nurse that He provided for Granny today!
Original Post:
When mom arrived at the hospital this morning the news wasn't as cheery as yesterday. Granny was having a hard time breathing on her own and they are considering putting her back on the ventilator. Please pray that the Lord would strengthen her lungs so she could continue to breath on her own. I will let you know when we hear something new.

Granny Update
This morning Aunt Polly and mother went in to see Granny in her hospital room. When they came in Granny immediately opened BOTH eyes and tried to speak! Mom said she was moving her feet ninety miles an hour along with her hands. The doctors said that they will be taking Granny of the ventilator this morning! Please pray that she will be able to take in full deep breaths and expel air as well. We hope with the ventilator removed she will be able to speak for the first time. Please thank God for such positive progress and continue to petition Him for Granny's complete healing. Her birthday is coming up February 4th! Here's a pic of four generations, Nail, Harkrider, Smith, and Luhrs. This picture was taken a month before Anne's first birthday.

Granny Update
As of now Granny is making little steps of progress. The doctors decided to keep her on the ventilator a bit longer instead of taking a chance of having to put her back on it later. Currently the ventilator is only pumping air in. Granny is doing all her breathing out on her own! She consistently opens her eyes, well I should say consistently opens her left eye. She is currently keeping her right eye closed which is probably due to her head injury. Please pray for patience for our family as we wait for her to heal, that Granny will be able to be taken off her ventilator and moved to Tyler, and for her eventual complete recovery.

Granny's Update 01/26/2009
I spoke to my mom this morning and they are currently, 10:54am, taking Granny off her ventilator. This is a very important step to recovery. They will know in the next thirty minutes if she will be able to sustain her own breathing. Pray that she will have sustained strength to breath on her own and that her lungs will be kept safe from any infection. Let's pray that God will make her lungs function like a teenagers! I will let you know the results. Thank you for all your prayers.

Granny Update
Granny is making progress. She is able to open her eyes when prompted and move her arms and legs when asked. They have slowly reduced the amount if oxygen coming through her ventilator and will aggressively take steps tomorrow to take her completely off the ventilator. Please continue to pray for her complete healing and strength for my parents.

Pray for Great Granny
Anne's Great Granny, my mom's mom, was in a car accident last night (01-22-2009) and is in ICU. She hasn't woken up yet, but her vital signs are good. Pray that the Lord would sustain my parents as they keep watch over Granny, that He would give wisdom to the doctors, and complete healing for Granny. I will keep you updated on her progress.
Winterfest 2009
Today at preschool Anne celebrated Winterfest. Since it rarely ever snows here in Texas they transform the gym at Anne's school into a winter wonderland and all the kids wear their pajamas that day. The kid's get to go ice fishing, throw snowballs (balled up white socks), go ice skating, and play in igloos. Scott was able to take the day off and come experience the snow too!

Anne Update
I thought I would put up a few recent pics of Anne. She loves wearing her daddy's hats and usually insist that everyone participate in hat wearing.
Last Saturday we went to the hospital for "Sibling Class." This was Anne's chance to see the delivery room, try out all the buttons on the hospital bed and get acquainted with the idea of a new baby sister. There was only one other child in her class so she was able to have lots of attention and "hands on training." They brought out baby dolls to practice holding and changing diapers. When the nurse asked Anne if she would like to see a real baby Anne declined, but we did eventually persuade her to have a look at the real thing. The nurse brought a baby into the viewing room and showed the kids her belly button, toes, and hands. Anne's only comment was, that baby is crying. Hopefully, she will feel a little more affection towards her sister, who by the way, still hasn't got a name. We are debating between Abigail Amanda or Margaret Amanda. I have put Scott in charge of choosing :) We are counting down the days (21 to be exact) to the baby's arrival.
Anne received a second hair cut from Papa on Sunday. It was getting a bit scraggly in the back. I think he did a great job! You can see the results in the picture below.
